Gautamiputra Satakarni is a 2017 Telugu, epic historical action film produced by Saibabu Jagarlamudi & Y. Rajeev Reddy on First Frame Entertainment banner[2] and written and directed by Krish.[3] Starring Nandamuri Balakrishna in title role, Shriya Saran as the female lead, and music composed by Chirantan Bhatt.[4] The film is based on life history of 2nd century CE, Satavahana ruler Gautamiputra Satakarni. The film is a prestigious project to Nandamuri Balakrishna as his 100th film.[5][6][7][8][9][10][11]

The film was officially announced 8 April 2016, on eve of Ugadi at Andhra Pradesh’s upcoming capital city Amaravati.[16] The movie opening was held at Hyderabad on 22 April 2016, with eminent personalities like K. Chandrasekhar Rao, T. Harish Rao, Chiranjeevi, Venkatesh, K. Raghavendra Rao, Dasari Narayana Rao, Singeetam Srinivasa Rao, Boyapati Srinu, Sai Korrapati, Sriwass, Akkineni Ramesh Prasad etc.[17][18] As the female lead was going for a long search, many heroines were on the verge of signing the main female role like Nayanthara, Kajal Aggarwal, Trisha and many others were considered. Finally, actress Shriya Saran was signed on as the lead heroine, after being successful in Telugu with various projects.[19] Bollywood veteran actress Hema Malini is playing Balakrishna’s mother character, Gautami Balashri.[20] Neeta Lulla is designing costumes and jewellery for Gautamiputra Satakarni.[21][22]
Nadamuri Balakrishna presented a Beautiful Saree to Hema Malini as a surprise gift at sets of the film on 4 September 2016, which is currently going on in Rajasthan.[23] The official teaser of the movie has been launched on 11th October 2016 at 10:15 a.m by the makers on eve of Vijayadashami.[24] The trailer has been launched on 16th of December, 2016 in Warangal.
